Why is my website not getting enquiries?

Usually because getting an enquiry is a chain, and one link is broken. People find you, land on your homepage, and then hit something that stops them: no obvious way to book, a phone number they can't tap, a page that takes eight seconds to load. The site looks fine. The chain isn't.

It is almost never the design

Most people assume a redesign is the answer, because the site is the thing they can see. But a beautiful site with no obvious next step loses just as many people as an ugly one. We have checked practices with genuinely handsome websites where a visitor on a phone could not book, could not tap to call, and could not send a message without leaving the page.

That is three dead ends on one screen. No amount of design fixes it, because the problem is not how it looks.

The six things that usually break it

There is no obvious way to book. If someone has to hunt through a menu to find your booking page, most of them will not. They will go back to the search results.

The phone number is not tappable. On a phone, a number that is an image or plain text means copying it out by hand. Most people will not bother.

Nothing to act on in the first screen. If a visitor has to scroll before they can do anything, a good share of them never scroll.

It is slow on mobile. Google's threshold for good is 2.5 seconds. We regularly measure eight, ten, twelve. Every second past that loses people who never tell you they left.

There is no way to send a message. A phone number alone excludes everyone who cannot ring you during working hours, which is most people at work.

Nothing happens after the enquiry. This one is invisible from outside. An enquiry that sits unanswered for a day is usually an enquiry that has already booked somewhere else.

How to work out which one is yours

You cannot tell by looking, because you already know where everything is on your own site. You have to check it the way a stranger on a phone would.

Most of the list above is measurable from outside in under a minute. That is what the check below does: it opens your homepage on a phone-sized screen, looks for a booking route, a tappable number, a contact form and something to act on in the first screen, then times how long the main content takes to appear.

It does not guess, and it does not give you a score. It reports what it found and what it could not see.
